What A Difference A Day Makes: 24 Hour Art Challenge A Success

On Friday, March 15, 2013, two dozen participating artists, their friends, families and the general public gathered to view the works that each of the artists created to raise money for Very Special Arts Brevard. Through ticket and art sales and auction items, the event raised over $4,000 for the organization. Very Special Arts, established in 1987, is a local organization committed to providing persons with disabilities the opportunity to reach their full potential through the arts.

Bill Ronat and Jay Decator of brandt ronat + company visited all 24 artists over a two day period, interviewing each of them and capturing them at work on their art. The documentary was shown at the event and is now available for viewing on YouTube at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3cLM3hDI84

“The video documentary is above and beyond any expectations I had,” Reneé Decator, artist and the producer of the event said. “It interwove the 24 artists and their varied approaches to the challenge into one vision of the positive and enriching effects of art and art-making. This was essential to the project since the artists worked separately in their own environments. The interaction between the patrons and the exhibit was noticeably more engaged after they viewed the documentary.”

The 24 artists were given a 24-hour period in which to create an artwork based around a small set of prompts and guidelines that were revealed to them at the beginning of their work day. The artists attacked the challenge with a variety of media, from watercolor to photography to encaustic to collage. You can view pictures of the final artwork here.
