Navigating the Media Marketplace

Brandt Ronat + Company is launching a special service line: Media Budget Consultation/Review and Recommendation.

In the community, we have many conversations with business people. Some of them are already our clients, but more often than not, these people are business colleagues, acquaintances and friends. They are business people focused on the day-to-day operations of their business and marketplace. They are extremely interested in how they are spending their media marketing and advertising budget. But they don’t always have all the information they need to stay knowledgeable and current about the media options that are available.

Or, they are extremely savvy marketers who have significant marketing budgets but don’t have enough time to stay on top of the rapidly changing current state of options that exist in the media world. They are wondering: “does that $200,000 annual contract still make sense? Can we save our company money and still get results? How do I recommend moving away from what has always worked?”

Often, during casual conversations we are asked for our opinions as marketing experts about how to spend media money. “Does this magazine make sense? What about this social media? And what is that exactly? What about online? We were presented with this contract from a newspaper, but it uses most of our media dollars, what do you think?”

From experience, we know that without knowledge about a particular business, it is very difficult to give any valuable and meaningful feedback to these questions. Every situation is different—what is the target audience? Your current situation? The budget? Your history of past choices and results? Often, we wish we could have helped more when asked, but our advice must be limited because proper research is simply essential.

Conventional wisdom says, “Discover a need and develop a way to fill that need.” That is where new products and services are born—which is why we have now added a valuable service line—Media Budget Consultation/Review and Recommendation. It allows us to do the necessary work to give meaningful feedback, which can usually save a business significant money. This option also allows Brandt Ronat to support businesses that may not have the resources to employ our complete range of services.

Being a small business ourselves, we know that business owners/managers wear many different hats. If you are a small business owner, you learn every day, on the fly—sometimes through trial and error—and most of the time on your own. Our new service is designed to take some of the guesswork out of that equation.

Many times, you might not have an ‘advertising/marketing/consulting’ budget to pay for media consultation services and only a small budget for the actual ad placement. Or, you may be assessing each available medium by the feedback and research you are provided from a representative from a particular media outlet.

Guess what, here is a secret: they all think their publication or billboard or radio station is the right place for you to spend your money. They are all wrong—or they are all right, just not all at the same time. Throw in the use of technology and the internet and you have a completely changing, new media maze.

We can help you navigate it.
