The Living Room Candidate – Political Ad Archive

During an election cycle, political ads are often seen as an annoyance, but a few years or decades removed from the election they were meant to influence and they become engrossing studies in the power of the medium, especially when examined in the context of their role in the ultimate outcome of the election.

The Living Room Candidate is an archive of more than 300 political television ads stretching from ads being released for the current election to the first political TV ads that helped Eisenhower capture the presidency in 1952. The ads are sorted by Year, Type of Commercial, and Issue and feature writeups which explain that years race in the context of each candidate’s campaign.
