Welcome to
On The Fly.
As we "flit" about in the world of information, we often find items of interest to share with people like you hungry to learn what's happening, where it's at and why the universe is such a fascinating place.
: : CL!CK Into Creativity
Melinda found a great short film by Lego. It's all about ideas and creativity. The film features a wacky mustachioed scientist trying to develop a machine for human flight. It features a stop motion look with slight vignetting and a whimsical score. Even the end credits are great!
The film promotes legoclick.com, a pretty cool site with more videos and articles about how Lego blocks are more than just a simple children's toy.
You can view the video right here, or head over to YouTube to see it larger.
: : Ice House
Two artists are freezing an abandoned house in Detroit to reference the contemporary urban conditions in the city and beyond and they're blogging about it here. A pretty interesting project with some great photos.
: : Al Gore, Typographer
A neat anecdote about a type foundry getting a call because a former Vice President didn't like the way the font's "1" was working in his new book.
: : Burnt Toast
Nearly 100 years after the toaster was invented, we've finally come up with a foolproof way to toast bread in a pop-up toaster without burning it. Magimix has unveiled a transparent toaster--a project 15 years in the making!
