George
Balanchine, while principal choreographer for the
New York City ballet once said, “I don't want people
who want to dance, I want people who have to dance". As a creative director Linda Brandt has brought this
same kind of drive for excellence to her firm. By
putting together a team of people who “have
to do great work”, Brandt has shaped a workplace
where only the best is good enough. As I’m
fond of saying (even though Linda gives me a dirty
look when I do), “It’s easy to keep LB
happy. Just be perfect—all the time.”
Of course, perfection is more than
just beautiful work. It’s also work that sells, that tells a story and
that meets the expectations and goals of the client. It’s
an amazing juggling act, one that Linda has been performing
with skill since opening her own shop back in 1989. One
of our favorite clients, Gatto’s Tires and Auto Service,
has been with us since then. That’s quite a testament
right there.
“Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.” Jonathan
Swift said that first, back in the 1700s. He understood
the moment when you look at the blank page and have the
courage to fill it. We use his quote as our motto and there
are few people who see more things invisible than Linda.
Believe me, this is a good thing. Linda has to dance.
